After considering many elements I created a new magic system based off the themes of legacy and heroism. The latter is less reflected because it’s hard to define it without losing its meaning in the process. I also made it very dependant on choice.
—————
Blacksmiths offer their Mana Seeds to create Ornate Stars within the Swordia. Once they fully complete drawing Life Lines on the Swordia’s body; the Mana Seed becomes a Data Essence. It takes on different forms depending on what the user is as a person.
They are coloured by the Corrupted Elements and must be maintained constantly. Swordia who use their Data Essence without a Blacksmith’s maintenance become Sword Demons possessed by the blade. Those who misuse Swordia to create Data Essences for themselves are called Astrayers or Demonic Humans. Both cursed and blessed by the Evil God.
People tend to avoid going to Hell so it isn’t common.
Progression relies on Arcane Imprint made by Blacksmiths.
Data Essences can use Skills and Techniques even without sacrificing anything, but Blacksmiths are unable to use Mana anymore without a Swordia helping them. They can still access powers apart from Mana to become strong. They need to be skilled.
Those skilled Blacksmiths can create Arcane Imprints onto the Data Essence. Each one is a mixture of a God’s gifted Data Card and a self-created Technique Card. Skills turned into Technique Cards can be used by the Swordia, but only has the user's mastery.
Data Essence = A weapon or object that is blessed by the gods and cursed by the devils. The gods give it a Job Class while the devils of the Artificial Underworld give it an Attribute. This makes it connected to the past and has the legacy of both sides of past conflicts.
Data Essences can still exist even without their original creators, but they degenerate if not maintained by someone with the original Blacksmith’s bloodline. It is customary for nobility to reforge their family’s Data Essence in hopes of retaining inherited techniques.
Bloodlines and inherited Data Essences lessen the random nature of what they usually get. Knowledge and experience can be passed on to the next user who will have the same characteristics as the predecessor.
Arcane Imprint = A mark of achievement. They can be created through interacting with the gods or by joining the Swordia’s and Blacksmith’s technique together. The latter is more difficult as it requires understanding of one another to synthesise imprints.
Life Lines = Drawn by the Blacksmith directly onto the Swordia’s body. It doesn’t have to cover the whole body but is essential to be on a person’s hands to use a Data Essence. Unlike their Data Essences, Life Lines cannot be given and connects their life to the essence.
Technique Cards = A copy of a person’s technique in real life formed into a card. Is used as material for Arcane Imprints. They can be imparted onto others but this may cause mental instability depending on the strength of the technique. Memories corrode the taker.
Techniques are separated into four grades (low, mid, high, peak) and ranks (bronze, silver, gold, platinum).
The higher the techniques grade, the more versatile it is. This does not mean Bronze Rank Technique Cards are useless as they are merely specialised for specific uses. Platinum Cards are so versatile that they can be used in any situation, but they are extremely rare.
Telekinesis is considered a Platinum Grade ability.
Personal Traits = These are characteristics of the user that cannot be shared with others. A person’s physical strength, mental fortitude, and abilities that don’t make use of Mana. Any technique or ability that relies on other factors is considered their personal trait.
————————
There are a lot of lore elements that goes into the system but I chose not to include them since this is purely to understand the Magic System itself. I chose to use the mechanic where superpowered individuals have limited uses of ultimate techniques everyday.
This makes it so there’s less of a gap between if someone has five Arcane Imprints or one.
Since they can only use them once a day they aren’t used regularly and are saved anyway.
This kinda copies my the power dynamic I used in another story despite being different. It lets me make it so humans can fight gods without those gods losing their appearance as greater existences.
There are only five real gaps of power within this Magic System.
1. You don’t use Mana or techniques. A typical normal person.
2. You do have some Magic or Personal Traits.
3. You have 1 to 5 Arcane Imprints.
4. You can spam the power of Arcane Imprints (basically gods).
5. Something beyond even that.
Number 5 is so rare that they only exist at the end of the story or don’t interfere with conflicts.
I’m now working on where the MC will be in each Arc and killing ideas that don’t align with this power system in the plan.
