Hello everyone

Today I came as usual with a simple question and somehow I manage to make it complex.

The question is simple, which of these two types do you think is better, or would you like to see over the other?

Why do I ask this question and in what way is it complex?

Well, that's because I'm trying to decide which of the two monster girls to introduce in my novel.

But my story is not an isekai or clone of monster mosume number 15.

In my story, the main character has a harem of monster girls, yes, but each one of them is important to the plot and has a clear arc and purpose within the series. In different ways, they are all important to the plot and the family they belong to.

And I also don't want to have too many characters in the harem because it makes it unmanageable. In fact, maybe this will be the last character to join the family.

But for this character, I have already planned several important things in mind and I think these two races can fit, but I only want to use one.
  1. It is a breed where the female is strong and the male is weak.
  2. The Female eats the male after sex
  3. Part of her arc will be her trying to leave her instincts behind as she wants to test the concept of family and unity that humans have.
  4. For plot reasons she will be a sniper, a lamia could have a good low pulse, while an Arachne could reach places easily.
  5. Both races lay eggs and abandon them to their fate, but she will try to be like a human mother, to be raising her children, although she is not good at it because she never had a paternal figure at all.
  6. The general idea is of someone who despite having a difficult past can break the cycle and become a good mother, even if her race is the opposite.
  7. She will probably die in a "shocking" way near the final arc so I need it to be hard the way she does it, although the ending will be a happy one, so don't hold back.
And in case you're wondering about the design, it will be something like what everyone wants. Obviously, they will be more human than monsters,

That's why I think the choice is not so easy because I really want to get it right with the story rather than put it up because it looks pretty.

Any comments you may have will help me a lot

Thank you very much in advance

Honestly I recommend a Lamia as they are agile and versatile. Arachne is also good but it is much better for close combat assasination than ranged sniping

A spider would match the second point really nicely, but I personally think a lamia fits the idea much better overall.

First of all, spiders normally rely on their nets. It's safe to assume that any arachne you could come up with would be heavily territorial, which would be a bad thing unless you want to add it to the point about overcoming her instincts. Point is, spiders are about their threads, which adds a lot of complications and doesn't fit the sniper role at all. An arachne would be much better as an assassin, but even that is far from perfect.

A lamia meanwhile would likely have infrared sensors (thermal vision, that's basically the same), plus snakes are sensitive to vibrations, and snakes are ectothermic (needed to google this one), so they rely on external heat sources. They are cold-blooded, to put simply. Considering that, they have almost everything important for a sniper: good perception (omnidirectional and through objects!) and ability to hide, plus mobility - worse than arachne, but still very good. And you don't even need to add any fancy technology or abilities for this to work.

Also, both spiders and snakes are lazy fuckers, but snakes are at least active, not like spiders that sit on their asses all their lives in their comfy nets.

Arachne matches most closely to me. It ticks all your boxes, while Lamia misses the majority of them (in every story I've read at least- obviously you can change that in your story, but it will take more explaining).

Additionally, spiders creep people out. Even though Lamias are snakes, they rarely generate the sort of fear response that Arachne do. If you want her to deal with her instincts and upbringing, then it should be a nice bonus to deal with outside factors like prejudice in addition to her internal factors.

(If she dies in a shocking way, it would be utterly tragic to be eaten by her children after deciding to care for them, in the same style as certain spiders. I'd seriously like to avoid reading tragedy though, so... )

:blob_blank:

I was thinking less PTSD. The idea was something like seeing the beauty of a family, not the terror of being eaten by your own children.

In the case of Arachne I was thinking of something like someone cuts off her woman part ( the torso) and because of her body she is still alive, only now only as a giant spider, and the protagonist and the others try to deal with that.

I hate tragic stories too. But the ending will be a pretty good one, a happy one, the best possible one in fact, but I want the readers to be even more scared that it won't be the case before that.

I would like to give more details, but I know a couple of readers that I have no idea why check my posts in the forums for more clues to my story, so I don't want to tell what happens at the end.

I misread this. :blob_shock:

That's so - cute? Creepy? I dunno, but it's cool that your readers care that much.

Am I the only one that noticed the irony of it not being monster musume but posting pics of monster musume characters?

I would suggest not doing either if the concern is mirroring that work too closely. There are plenty of different kinds of reptile / arachnid demi humans that would make good options.

Arachne, if only for the obvious goth look since people aren't innovative enough for something else.

If you want to be innovative just create your own race, tho.
