Ai cover is the same as no cover

Professionally drawn covers cost money. Money is something most people don't have a huge abundance of. AI generated covers are free. If you're not willing to pay for the author to commission a cover, you shouldn't be allowed to complain about the AI cover they use instead.

EDIT: This only applies to free webfiction-type books. If you're planning on publishing and making money off of your story, you need to have a "real" cover.

far from perfect, but I use both AI and HS2. Honey Select 2 (HS2) can be a little intensive for the PC, but it's better quality than 90% of AI. I've offered making covers, but no one has taken me up on it yet. :blob_teary:

as I said, they're far from perfect, but they're free and non-AI.
It is b8, but I also genuinely believe it. A few years ago an edited ai cover would catch my attention, but now my brain just filters it out instant
there are 3 sets of AI, in my opinion. first and most common is Bad AI. these are the ones with extra legs, arms, triple eyes, two different types of eyes, etc.

Typical AI has minor small issues that the user should've edited out, but whatever, i can handle it.

Last is good AI. these are rare gems, but they do exist. You generally can't tell the difference. Truth is, big companies are using AI, but they use good AI so you don't really notice without looking REALLY close.

Sounds hurtful.

Yoo...

You wrote another book?

And with your own-made cover?

Think I should clarify my point a bit more. When I look at covers on SH or NU I don’t really care about art quality, I’m looking more for an expression of effort. Putting more care into a cover is the easiest way to express that the author/creator cares about their story and is willing to invest additional time and resources into it.

A few years ago back when AI was worse and harder to use, if I saw a well edited ai cover it would catch my interest the same as anything hand drawn would. Now ai is much better and something that far surpasses an old edited ai cover, and even a lot of hand drawn covers can be done in seconds from a free website.

So if it only takes a few minutes at most to generate a cover, as far as my search criteria is concerned, that isn’t much different from not having a cover at all

I have a love-hate relationship with AI art. For one, I understand that it's frowned upon. On the other, AI art can create beautiful things. Plus it's free. And let's be honest, most of us are broke. I see your point of view. But I disagree. I live by the golden rule. Don't judge a book by it's cover. And yes, I use AI art. And my covers each took me at least 3 hours to get right with edits.

Most covers are singing someone else’s song.
Don't judge a book by its cover.
What are we to judge by, if not the cover?

It’s what the cover of a book is there for: to be judged (to bind the pages, and protect the delicate pages from damage).

It’s only when it relates to people that this gets tenuous, but if you see an unwashed, hideously ugly, disease ridden person from who you can see the fleas hopping:

You might feel for them, or even pity them, but you’re not going to go over and ask them out for a quick romp in the Kroger restroom.

You see an interesting cover and/or an interesting title (probably while searching by genre), these lead you to the synopsis and the tags page, from which you make the decision on how you spend your time: ergo chapter 1.

If we were fair to all stories, we would withhold our judgement until not only the last page was done and read, but we’d had a nice sleep and a very pleasant day of silence to think on what we read before delivering our verdict:

That story was bad.
