I've been reading stories made by japanese that depic Onsen and their "wash-before-enter-the-pool". It doesn't matter whether the story is set in Japan, word of magic, ancient, monster world, etc.

I know it's supposed to keep the hot spring pools clean, and I appreciate it.

but is there anyone that broke that rule and straight up go to pool being unclean ?

Yes, children with irresponsible parents. They will have a bad time if I caught them, these hands are rated E for everyone.

Please, elaborate to this monke brain. What would happen if someone were caught being unclean while entering the onsen? I'm genuinely curious. (I don't mind you add some joke after that, but I really do wanna know the punishment)

Unfortunately (or fortunately), in all of my trips into the onsen, I have never seen such a behaviour.

Japan is very mountainous. This leads to clear streams. It leads to a belief that clean is better than dirty which discourages the behavior you are asking for. Unlike europe which has been a stagnant cesspit for most of human history.

What would happen? They'd get kicked out. Duh.
What? You want some sort of social campaign to cancel the offender?

But, you know... more Japanese.

I believe baths are also this way. People shower before they enter the bath and they can use the same bath water for the whole family.

You're supposed to shower before you go in the swimming pools here and there are showers RIGHT THERE for this purpose, yet people still don't bother. Round here we're lucky if the local scum bother to brush the Greggs pasty crumbs off them first.
Nothing happens to them. People need to be dragged out, fire-hosed aggressively down with bleach, and yelled at.

So, I don't go swimming. There's not enough chlorine in the world....

Its very unhygienic. They would get scolded very badly but nothing would really happen tho.
