My little brother does AI tracks for videos a LOT. (It is not his career; he is a network admin, but like me, he is creative in his off times, and a lot of his copyright-free stuff is used by a ton of YouTubers.)

A lot of times. I will listen to his tracks while I am writing to capture and enhance the 'feel' of a chapter I am writing.
The webnovel, as a medium, offers a lot of room for improvisation. I am wondering, for my webnovel-only volumes, if it would be worth the time and effort to literally include a license-free musical track in some chapters to help readers capture the feel of a particular chapter.

Or would it just be considered stodgy and 'artsy fartsy' and a waste of time? I don't mean literally capture (I am not Mercedes Lackey, and don't plan to include bardic tracks like 'threes' based on the story), I just mean the track that captures the feeling I am trying to evoke.

If there is a good reason (i.e the characters attend a concert or take part in a grand ball), it would be more of a "gimmick" - and a cool one, if not overused.
If just used to set the mood... well, audionovels frequently do this - sometimes it helps, sometimes it distracts.

It would be tacky and would make the users look for where the noise comes from and get annoyed not finding it and turning it off.

Don't forget, there are many who read while also listening to their own music.

uhh... most webdevices don't activate unless the user tells it to 'play'
