    Appetite for contemporary fiction?

Gotcha. I think they're here. And at minimum they lass by. The fact that I've even had close to a half dozen people read through mine, one positive comment, and a like in less than a month when I do some genuinely controversial things- dream sequence opening, lack of explosions and dopamine in...

    Appetite for contemporary fiction?

In my experience contemporary means different things to different people. The story I'm posting here is technically contemporary, I think. Takes place in 2031, has slice of life, comedy, satire, and supernatural elements. I'm very much writing what I want to write, not something optimized for...

Anyone has tips on fantasy eco?

Have you considered referencing the d&d Dungeon Master's Guide and/or Player's Handbook for inspiration, then maybe scaling up or down and tweaking the currency itself to fit your vision and setting?

    Release Timing

I just post between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM in my local time zone (US East Coast) Mondays and Fridays. Been less than a month, my story has been viewed 220 times, my first chapter has 31 views, second chapter 17, and the rest settling around 4 - 7. Got one comment, one like. That's better than I...

What's the use of Latest Chapter Discussion for you?

Makes sense... That sounds really depressing to watch happen and live through. Sorry to hear. But I think it's really cool people have stuck with it despite that. Perhaps a renaissance may be in the wings some day 🤞

What's the use of Latest Chapter Discussion for you?

When was this BeforeTimes? Anything in particular seem to contribute to the change?

How was your first writing experience?

For me it was something like shock and euphoria. I've wanted to write something since I was in middle school (turning 31 this year). My older brother has always been my hero and he poured countless hours into a dark urban fantasy he was writing called "The Demon Song". It was a big thing for...

    Suicide in Fiction

I think it's possible to pull that off, but I can see easily how that could veer into normalization of suicide for those who are struggling and need help, and loss of empathy and urgency for beoader society leading to more of a "shit happens, what can you do?" approach, even though I'm much more...

    Stuck on something.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I say stick with your vision. You know your story best, including how volume 4 should end. And if your readers enjoyed and were engaged with the first thee volumes it likely won't bother them... but switching gears in a way you the writer are less enthusiastic...

Free Developmental Feedback on Chapter One From a Seasoned Editor

The real tell is that they say they're a professional editor, and are from the UK. Clear shenanigans. No way they'd let any editor or publishing affiliated individual visit any site as free expression tolerant as Scribble Hub without being tracked, monitored, and detained for thuggery...

    Looking for technical feedback

Sometimes I'm on a roll despite being up against the grain. :giggle:

    Looking for technical feedback

I'm relatively new to loafing around in this neck of the woods myself, but if you are getting a lot of readers and you check your story statistics and can see consistent views across your chapters- that's not nothing and indicates people probably like your content. Even if they aren't leaving...

    Opinion on selfish MCs.

THAT sounds like it has a lot more potential. But you see where precedent brought my mind and expectations

    Opinion on selfish MCs.

This probably boils down to personal taste. As a frustrated teenager who often felt taken for granted, unappreciated, not respected... there was occasionally a certain edgy catharsis in putting myself in the shoes of the guy who knows what he cares about, takes what he wants, and tells...

Offering feedback on your first chapter

Want to clarify before I share my story: Every chapter is 100% author written, but my work contains a couple optional/skippable worldbuilding addendums with additional context for neurodivergents like me, and one contains a fictional piece of legislation that is author created, and formatted to...

    Is 9k words too much?

There are readers with arbitrary "chapter must be between x and y number of words", so it will impact your reach, but I reject arbitrary rules like "chapters should have x number of words" or anything else where the key argument has nothing to do with the content and boils down to "it's simply...

    What's up with the downvoting?

Hello fellow call center survivor :blob_highfive: That's actually a pretty compelling point, even if I think silent consistent readers matter more in the abstract intangible value sense. You're making my thinker box rattle
