Question for non native English Authors, What do you do in this situation?

I know exactly how you feel, I am the same, I've spent entire evenings stuck on a single word. I always try to look it up on wordrefference if I have the word in my native language in mind, it's usually not good enough. Then I look it up on online thesauruses, as others have mentioned. I used to...

Any of ya'll use Bluesky or X to promote your work?

I tried both briefly, though not with my Scribblehub work. Twitter is a mess, as I'm sure you know, hardly worth using it for anything. Bluesky I don't know, maybe I did it wrong (?) but it just seems that the only people who see my posts are my friends and people I often interact with. Plus...

    Happy Year of the Horse!

I was born on a year of the horse. I know very little about chinese culture, does that help me anywhere? :blobrofl:

Is Posting all at once bad?

I don't think its bad but its definitely not as efficient for discoverability. Whenever you drop a chapter it shows up in the site's "Latest Updates" section and because there is a lot of chapters being posted site wide your best shot at being discovered is maximazing the time your stories spend...

How did you start writing fiction in your early journey as a new author?

My first writing project started very early in my life, I wanna say 2012 but at this point its kinda hard to remember. It was a silly little fanfiction of a game I really really liked (and still play 14 years later, funny how life works some times :blobrofl: ) that didn't really go anywhere...

Writing What feedback do you need to improve your narrative?

The most important part is the prose. I don't care if the plot doesn't hold up or is full of holes or if the characters are wishy-washy (within reason, of course) if I'm sucked in by the writing. A lot of authors bend over backwards trying to make airtight plots and characters that make perfect...

    Writing The thing with pronouns

As was mentioned above using names is the most effectrive method, though the repetition can be grating. Try pepering in descriptors about the characters. Their hair color for example, or their dress, or their job description. I've also seen mixing and matching first and last names to be...

I’m up to Part 6 of Jojo Bizzare adventure… why is every villain always time based (Spoiler)

I belive Araki has stated he wants to make his villains seem indomitable and believes time based abilities to be the strongest, hence why he gives them to his villains. I haven't been into Jojo in a while though, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

A fresh start. What would you do?

Hello. Im sure Im not alone in this but when I started working on my story I had no idea what I was doing. I had a vision, a plan, but few of the skills I required to actually see them through. I think I've improved a lot over the months that the story has been going, almost a year at this...

Are 'em dashes' a put off simply because AI uses it a lot?

Gratuitous use is certainly an eyebrow raiser for me, but using it once or twice here and there feels fine most of the time. Or at least thats what I tell myself because I like to use them from time to time and the idea that readers may think my writing is AI terrifies be B)

What’s your favorite color or breed of cat?

Apparently Greece has its own breed, the Aegean Cat, and I had no idea my whole life until something like a couple of weeks ago. So I'd say that, gotta represent  But also its a very pretty cat breed. As for favourite color... I'd say calico. But local cats are aslo very pretty...

    When did you start writing?

I've been an avid reader pretty much since day one, I got the bug of wanting to tell my own stories at around 7-8 years old. I didn't start working on stuff until I was 13, second year of junior high. And Im still working with the same OCs, although they've gone through several changes and...

Ever noticed that your character is a pretty crappy person? / What if worldbuilding leads to moral issues?

At the end of the day I feel like you have to decide what kind of story you are going for. Your lich MC sounds pretty deplorable to me, which is not a bad thing nescsarily. But it can go a few different ways. It can turn into a redemption story, where she learnes the error of her ways and breaks...

    PAY ARTISTS !!

The thing that gets me the most about covers is the false idea that you need AI if you can't comission or make something yourself. @Envylope has the right idea, you can work miracles in any photo editing software, and without that much effort either. Its certainly harder than just prompting Grok...

To Those Who Write Fight Scenes...

The hardest part I'd say is matching the physicality to the internal conflict your main character is going through, how the fight affects them. For me at least. I'm geared towards descriptions, can't handle emotions well. Unfortunately I cannot advise on how to do this because I don't know that...

    Chapter Posting Schedules (Advice)

The one true answer is, reallistically, as many as you are comfortable posting. Which is a non answer, but either way you have to figure out what schedule works for you. Naturally readers will want as much as possible, so daily would be the ideal for them but I personally would refrain from...

    Giving characters debilitating injuries?

I personally love the idea, and have applied it to my own story. I think its an incredible source of conflict, both internal and external. I love arcs where the characters have to get used to a new way of life, especially if they are physical and their injury diminishes their physicality...
