Making a living off writing stories

This is entirely incorrect about Royal Road. You do not pay anything to post on Royal Road, Royal Road does not do any publishing, it has nothing in common with any sort of vanity press. Royal Road and ScribbleHub are virtually identical except for the amount of traffic, the visual design, and...

    Story Being Reposted :c

I keep a list, I'm aware of my story being copied to five other sites at this point. It's not worth bothering about, the sites run entirely on pirated content, they don't care about copyright claims.

    How to rank adventurer.

The "Challengers Association" in my story assigns adventurers to 50 levels divided among five tiers: Initiate Advanced Expert Master Supreme These are just the association's recognition of an adventurer's skill and power though and not their actual power. There's no theoretical upper limit...

    How to write harem ?

One of the most annoying things about harem stories to me is when you know a character is going to join the harem in the first paragraph where they're introduced. How? Because it describes them as an attractive/cute/beautiful woman and every single attractive woman in the story inevitably joins...

How stubborn are your reading preferences?

If a protagonist is going to be a villain, or an anti-hero, or just a plain asshole, they have to at least be a fun one. Ones where the protagonist is just a dick or a sociopath are a quick drop. I hate school stories. I double hate tournament arcs in school stories. I triple-hate tournament...

[POLL] Which type of villain is more up to your alley?

Best villains: Have a goal that's reasonable from at least their own perspective, and they just happen to be opposed to the protagonists. Fun villains: Might not have some sort of deep philosophy or noble goal but at least they're having fun being a villain or from enjoying the fruits of their...

    wtf moment made by mc

One story I stopped reading early on - the MC gets attacked and almost murdered by a local bully and his clique. A few days later he's inviting him to his dungeon party because he needs a tank and it would be inconvenient to have to look around for someone who didn't just try to murder him...

The "Similar Series" of your story

I don't really see them as being similar at all, to be honest I kind of wish authors could set their own recommendations instead.

I'm curious, what writing software do you (yes I mean you specially) use?

Feels pretty much the same to me now as a decade ago, maybe you were using some special plugins or something but I haven't noticed any major changes.

How to increase the quality of writing style

Haven't read your story, but generally when I feel like a 1st person story is being too 'report like' it's because the story is happening almost entirely in the MC's head - almost all of the story is them talking or thinking to themselves. A much better way of doing things is to have decisions...

How many chapters do you read before posting a review?

If it's a story I'm keeping up with, once I've finished the released chapters. If it's one I'm dropping, then only if I feel confident that the amount I read is representative of the story as a whole. If I haven't finished the first arc I just forget it and move on.

    Writing smut feels illegal lol

It's fine on RR as long as it's not the only focus of the story. My smut has more views on RR than it does here.

The highest honour you can recive from a reader

One of the biggest achievements for me is anytime I find someone talking about my work somewhere where I wasn't the one who started the conversation. As far as favorite comments go, my pride and achievement is a gay guy saying I managed to turn him on with a FFF scene.

Do you feel intense cringe when the novel MC swears?

I find it weird that the assumption is that swearing is something 'young people' do and that you age out of it. When I was an awkward kid I could barely force myself to say a bad word. Now unless there's kids around or something I don't even notice swears as being any different than any other...

    what makes scribblehub great?

To pile on to what others have said, the main advantage SH has over RR is allowing smut. The audience here is either more forgiving or more into my kind of stuff, going by my 4.6 rating here compared to 4.2 on RR, but it's mainly the smut that had me bring my story over here. While my story...

I respect writers who can stick to a set schedule immensely

A backlog is absolutely the main key to being able to stick to a schedule. Honestly I don't understand how anyone does without one, it sounds like setting yourself up for stress.

What is the biggest mistake a new writer can make?

You do need to get into the habit of writing regularly, but forcing yourself to do it every day (especially if you have a different full time job) is a bad idea. There are some days when it's just not going to happen, because you're busy or tired or pissed off or just don't have any good ideas...

    January 1st public domain bids

To be clear, Creative Commons is not any special legal thing, it's just a very commonly used license. You can put something out under any license you want - you could release a story saying "You're free to use this setting and characters in any story you like, however all characters in your...

    Writing about the opposite gender.

To some extent this is probably a lot easier if you're writing in a fantasy setting. What's the traditional daily life like for a woman in a fantasy world vaguely based on 13th century Europe? Hell man, what's life like for anybody in the fantasy world, nobody's gonna be around to factcheck you...
