I’ve seen a few posts now from people wondering how long it takes before your story starts to gain traction, so I thought I’d ask: if you have a reader base, no matter how small, how long did it take you to develop it?

What interaction have you had with a reader that’s left a positive impression on you?

If you post your work here on ScribbleHub, do you have a specific goal in mind? A certain number of readers, enough of a support base for a Patreon, a few commenters that follow along for every update, just a way to keep yourself accountable, etc?
You can tackle this question however you like—maybe 3 things you like about your own writing and 3 things you don’t, or what’s easiest for you to write versus what’s the most difficult, etc etc. Maybe you love world-building but struggle with pacing, or you think your dialogue is really strong...
And if it does matter to you, what’s the ideal length you’re looking for, and how do you judge it? By word count, number of chapters, or something else?

I’ve been reading some of the general advice posts here on the forum, and most of them (rightly, I think) suggest that WNs should stick to chapters in the 1.5k-2.5k word range. I’ve been making an effort to keep my newest chapters on the shorter side, but my problem is that my first ten-ish...
