I think I get isekai now (warning: navel-gazing ahead)

Yeah, see this is a big reason I roll my eyes when people say to write the meta. It sometimes feels like isekai-like or LN-like titles are almost a requirement, along with the nobody protagonist who happens to be smarter/cooler than the inhabitants of the world because they understand the meta...

I think I get isekai now (warning: navel-gazing ahead)

Sorry, I probably should have been clearer about what I meant by "getting" it. I'm not assuming one single reason why people like the genre, it was more like I didn't get the point of it existing in the first place. It felt like a hyper-specific trope applied to a broad category of fiction...

I think I get isekai now (warning: navel-gazing ahead)

As the title says: boring navel-gazing ahead. Viewer discretion advised. Okay, so I have a pretty long commute every morning and today as I was watching the highway go by I think I stumbled on the answer to something that had been bugging me. Isekai. I don't get it, not a fan. Absolutely NOT...

[Discussion] In your understanding, what is martial art?

I guess...any codified practice relating to combat between individuals, as distinct from "the art of war" as in strategic practice for waging large-scale conflict. I suppose that could be pretty vague though. Is it only the traditional hand-to-hand and melee weapon combat? Do guns count? They...

    Hello Japan!

Thanks! I hadn't thought of posting on my SH profile, actually. I guess I didn't realize people even look there.

    Hello Japan!

Yeah, I figured the odds of the reader actually being from Japan AND coming here to see it were slim to none. It costs nothing to try though. Plus I think this post got someone from Singapore to start reading too. So, hello Singapore!

    Do you use em dash?

You'll get accused of using AI for writing with good grammar or three-syllable words. Don't dumb yourself down. Em dashes are opt-shift-hyphen on a Mac, in case you need it.

    Hello Japan!

Just wanted to say hi to whoever spent the last few days binging my series in Japan…thank you! Hope you liked it.

Do you listen to music when writing?

Oh so we’re writing smut-smut. :blobrofl: In that case, I humbly submit Power is Mine by Lords of Acid

Do you listen to music when writing?

Here's an example. It's probably the most blatant one, should be easy to spot. For context, the MC (Eya) has just done something that caused her grave moral injury. She knew what she was doing and why it needed to be done, but it represented a relapse into past behavior that she had been...

Do you listen to music when writing?

Hell if I know. I've got one comment and no reviews. I do it for my own amusement mostly, but I think that even if you don't pick up on the reference directly it still acts as a kind of subconscious soundtrack if that makes sense? Like your brain registers the emotional connection to...

Do you listen to music when writing?

Yes, and when a song is inspiring a particular scene I like to slip a reference to the lyrics into it as an easter egg.

    My weird ass epiphany

Wait, are they a butt stabber who is fluffy, or a stabber of fluffy butts?

    My weird ass epiphany

When it comes to unsolicited thoughts on something you want to write about, I like to think back on the immortal words of The Dude, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino, if you’re not into the whole brevity thing:

The Art of Creative Insults: A Thread

"Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go." Cap it off with "Anyway...goodbye,"

What’s the greatest compliment you have received from a reader?

"I don’t think I’ve laughed this much during a serious and impactful narrative maybe ever." Felt good because it meant I'd struck the balance I was trying for.

    Do you use em dash?

It's the appropriate way to interrupt a clause. Most of the time when people overuse commas, they should be using an em dash. Hyphens can be used for a stutter, but an em dash is the correct way to show someone interrupting a thought or someone else's speech. En dashes are only for things...
