What makes you stick with a story from start to finish?

I feel like there is a minimum word count so that you dont just skim through the chapter in 2 minutes. But otherwise I've read stories with very long chapters (moonlight sculptor, wandering inn) and it never was a problem. Overall I wouldn't worry about word count as long as the chapter's...

What makes you stick with a story from start to finish?

Reasons to start reading: - the story is a genre i like - bonus if there is an original twist or take on the genre - it has a few dozen chapters at least - it doesn't look too complicated ( in the summary, do not give me the names of imaginary people or places I don't care about yet - who cares...

    Posting on Patreon question

I believe they can't stop it. This is not the only type of content concerned by this problem (movies, games, songs, ...) Some authors place hidden text in their chapters which gets displayed on other websites who used scripts to download the content. Strictly speaking, it works for the code...

    Posting on Patreon question

I saw many writers simply post plain text. However, as a reader, I find it is not very pleasant to read. Pirateaba - The Wandering Inn - locks the latest chapter on their WordPress site, and you can get the password on patreon to unlock it. I'm also curious now. Are there other waus to do it...

    I NEED MOTIVES OR REASONS

He may be looking for someone with a specific power. Maybe he wants to find someone honorable enough or tough enough for him to teach them Maybe he has a hidden child that is learning how to fight and he is here to teach him/her how to fight without revealing his identity. Maybe someone asked...

Does this magic system work/make sense?

Seems quite complete. Just make sure to present it bit by bit to the reader, through bits and pieces of the story, and not in one or two chapters. Otherwise, like the others said, it will feel just like reading a manual, and the reader will lose this sensation of mystery there is in seeing magic...

    Insults and such

You can use words such as "monster", "half-breed" depending on the situation, "disgusting". Lookup online, I'm sure someone stores a list of bad words somewhere. Otherwise, using non-verbal situations can be even more impactful : refusing to mingle with X, looking away from them, ignoring them...

    Feeling sad rn

It reminds me of an AMV editor that made really wonderful videos. I learned she died after a bit of searching. She worked on her videos while in the hospital. It always leaves a sad aftertone in my mind when I think about it.:blob_teary:

Writing fantasy novel for the first time

I heard somewhere that there are two types of writers: the gardeners who write things as they come and trim the story when necessary, and the architects who prepare everything in advance so that they know exactly what to do and when to do it. In the first case, yes you can simply write a few...

I can't stop listening to this song.

My current favorite is Carpenter Brut's version of Maniac, by Michael Sembello : It's awesome to hear this song while you read the climax of a story.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 has ended!!!!

Not much of a fan usually, but couldn't help watch the finals yesterday. Beautiful match, I thought France would lose for sure when they were at 2-0. Didn't expect them to go back up to 2-2. Or even egalize at 3-3. This was a great Messi / Mbappe match!

Why do people start a new thread but the OP never posts anything again?

When posting a new thread, I just want to see the answers. Usually you don't need to add to it.

    Context Help

The answer seemed fine to me. Using question marks like this just means the answers are evident to the one writing it, it looks confrontational because people react more than they think... especially online. It's like writing "I think X, why is it that you don't see it my way?" Which is a legit...

How do you write a believable villain

Sometimes an evil villain is just fine. Make it an evil demon that wants to enslave all of humanity and there you have your Dai Mao. That way you don't have to ask yourself if the main character should spare them because you never know, it's not really a bad guy ... If they are evil, then you...

How do you write a believable fight scene?

It's all in the rythm. You can manipulate the length of the sentences. Also, good fighting scenes usually show the culmination of the character's work or development. It's when the character shows everything they learned. However you can also use short combat descriptions for when the...

I drew the cover for my novel, what do you think about it?

I'm no expert designer, but i'm an avid reader. And I can say that this cover would catch my eye if I saw it on RR or SH.
