Hmm, this is rather difficult for me to answer. Take Mother of Learning for example (A very good Web Novel). Author post a chapter once every month or so. But he kept doing it for a few years. But I guess as a rule of thumb, as long as someone doesn't take random hiatus or keep to a schedule...

I'm too am rather curious about this. For me personally, the most important part of it is consistency. If I'm confident that the author can keep writing and not just stop one day, then I'll give it a read. If I have the time of course. Usually about 50k I guess? If I have to consider word count.

That's basically how I describe mine. You can solve pretty much 90% of magic plot problems with this setting.
