Mmm I listen to classical music and operatic versions of movie/game soundtracks. They are very good at providing inspiration while not being distracting.
Mmm, I find that descriptions more naturally allow me to imagine sound effects than phrases which are more jarring. With pictorial writing, it feels better, since the imagery comes from the page and not from my imagination.
I recommend reading a lot of published fiction. They have the best editors and most thorough editing. And once you start seeing the patterns of how tenses work together, it becomes much easier to write with correct tenses.
Yeah I definitely agree that sound description is far more common than onomatopoeia. Honestly as a general rule, ononomatopoeiac sound effects feel like something that fits better with manga/comics than it does pure written word.
I think NUF had gotten big enough that @Tony wasn't able to police it as much. He was much stricter in the past. Jaded from NUF frequently complained about it.
Honestly, I should make a guide to writing reviews based off my own experience, just to help new reviewers get an idea of what to look at when reviewing.
I'm actually rather curious how the numbers were ordered, since not including test accounts I was the 13th user but with the tests I was 56. And on the forum I'm 23.
