On first glance it does look really uncomfortable, and I myself probably would not want to sit on it, but it has some symbolic meaning.

But let's be real... How do you sit on the thrones?
Well short answer, you can probably without hurting yourself as long as you don't lean back and get stabbed by those sharp spikes.
