By their logic, that means they werent stolen. As the marriage wasnt done yet (and betrothal was just a promise and not officially done). That means millions of chineses in china use falsely the word "stolen" by their logic.

As to the chinese side, due to the proposal isn't made between two officially and instead by proxy, it is seen aa NTR or shameful for either party to dip without official announcement.
Then again, this is like a face/ reputation thing and cultures differ.

To be honest, all "old" series sure had great luck.
