I hear that during British India rule - many people from SOUTH INDIA ( mostly from tamil nadu) were sent to INDONESIA for labour...They settled there..and Kartik is a common name in Tamilians...That's the story

Their low population was reason to reason Indian ethnic people from south for labour in indonesia...I think about 30% of population is Indian ethinic there

In North India, Kartika can be both a boy or girl name. Sometimes 'a' is silent.... sometimes not.

@Playerkartik you might be mixing it with Malaysia a bit, Indonesia was barely colonized by the UK. The connection of India-Indonesia is way longer than european colonization. The Chola Empire (should be a Tamil Dynasty?) once ruled part of our islands (the richest and strongest in that period).

Although Buddhists and Hindus are minority now, Indian influences are still heavy with us.
