Ah~ the OP deleted the thread?

OK, I will die on this hill...
"I am not trying to change you, I just want you to be the best version of yourself"
That IS something villains would say, and its strange to be in normal convo.

I don't care. I don't feel like changing my mind in the next 24 hours at least.
And I am not trying to change the thread, I just want it to be the best version of itself.

I agree with you. Constructive feedback isn't about preaching or changing an artistic vision. It's more about how to tell an effective story.

By the way, I didn't know threads could be deleted?! I've created many threads and haven't found the "delete" button yet.

You can delete the thread if it's fresh otherwise you have to ask the mods by reporting it.

This is why whenever I give feedback, I ask the author on what part I should look into. This should be clear, coz I don't wanna destroy their vision for the work.

Agree.

Besides, I always state my position as a causal reader. I don't claim my feedback is the best, but I am honest about my reading experience when evaluating a narrative.

I will provide suggestions. But whether those suggestions are implemented or not... that's the author's decision. The reviewer's job is simply to provide an honest assessment based on their experience.

This is the common mistake of many who ask for feedback. They think one opinion is what many will see in their work.

Same goes for some who give feedback. They assume their experiences is the only thing that matters, thus tend to diss authors who do different from their standards.

Even more so those readers who think a 'proper' story of certain 'genres' should follow certain standards.

If everyone does that, we'll end up with a sea of photocopied works.

Exactly. You're a truly good teacher. I can see that in your humility when it comes to feedback.

Thanks! Though, these things I say now are also a product of my experiences as an author. I learned everything the hard way, but I appreciate that I did, anyway.

I'm happy I can help peeps with my observations and experiences. ?

MwHahaha...I on the other rarely give feed back and when I do I only give evil (barely helpful) feed back.

I only tell people how it makes me feel. And refuse to talk "shop" and go out of my way to minimize saying anything about technicals and mechanics. :blob_ninja:

^ I also rarely give feedbacks, especially when the author isn't asking for it.

Hence, if you look around the Feedback threads, I'm one of the old SHF peeps that is yet to put up a feedback thread.

At least you're honest about your reading experience. The technical aspects are just a bonus. Not everyone has the time to write technical stuff.
