Because meowth coins are disgusting. If someone ripped money off their face would you use it?

Besides, pokemon lore is weird. For some reason, humans get defeated by lv. 2 pidgy and stuff like that. Only criminals and pokemon trainers can apparently train Meowth to that level.

You think the coins they use look the same as meowth forehead coins? They’re too big. The shopkeeper definitely knows that they’re meowth coins.
