I only started using em dashes after AI made them ubiquitous. I don't really care if people accuse me of AI (I barely publish my writing anyway :blob_no:). It helps curb my comma use

I love commas. I had to study three years to learn how to use them properly most of the time.

Yet that sentence uses no commas :blob_hmm_two:

Curious!

As an avid fanfic reader and writer since I was 10, I love em dashes. I have a Chinese keyboard, so all I have to do is switch languages (shift), then press shift+hyphen, and I get two em dashes. Some word processors give you an em dash if you press hyphen three times (literally learned this about Google Docs two days ago… I’m an eejit). I normally use them for suspenseful pauses or certain appositive phrases. :)

But on a regular English keyboard, it’s pretty complicated to type an em dash though. You need a numpad. Alt + (numpad) 0151

If you love something, you have to set it free.
