This is like the hero vs villain thing. Sacrifice yourself or the one you love to save the world… or sacrifice the rest of the world to save the one you love. Now, wouldn’t it be interesting if the two of them were lovers/family? ?

My fictional premise will inherently lead to the climax of this scenario even the climax of volume 2 leads to this... and yes, they are a family that loves each other.

The story I have done, Azure Night. Has a similar premise. Where the protagonist chose to become the enemy to save their partner from being sacrificed for the ‘Greater Good’.

I put that in quotes, because apparently it was widespread oppression and or death.

Every path demanded the other’s death, and the protagonist kept giving up more. Until the last thing they can gamble is their existence, so they gambled it on the tiniest chance for success.

There isn’t a right nor wrong, as this is a morally grey story.

An honest story is one that lets the consequences play out as they are.

Pretty much, they succeed. But they are viewed as the enemy. They lost pretty much everything, but gained the one thing they fought for.

Which was for the other to have the future, for that one to be free and shine. They fully accepted their scorn, and walked away when they succeeded.

Since the major power was critically hit, they left the world in a state of collapse. That power will inevitably fall, a slow end.

In short, a global collapse.

I think of a parody now and then.

When a character could be like.

“Sir, maybe we should release the hostage.”

Antagonist,

“Why is that?”

Person,

“I don’t know…maybe because the protagonist already burned down half a continent in the two weeks they’ve been out of prison?!” ?
