The more better someone is at writing, the more AI detectors flag them as AI. Like, if you ignore all the grammar rules and write like a maniac, the AI detectors label it as human writing. :blob_no:

Students = AI
Teachers = AI
Authors = AI
Cat walking on the keyboard = Not AI :blob_catflip:

It kind of feels sad. This is the reason I stopped using em-dashes, since my work started to show up as like 10% or more AI. But like, I never use AI at all. I don't even use editing software like grammarly.

Even in a recent thread, someone said that it read like AI. A bat tries to be helpful, and some guy said it reads like AI.

I also use em dash, mainly to show the character's thought or dialogue is interrupted, but I never use AI detectors, since--like all AI stuff--can be fooled into thinking it's AI.

I'm just aghast at my colleagues using AI as proof our students wrote their research paper via AI. Like you guys said, it's not 100% foolproof.

Tis like that AI powered grammar correction app I've been using. Always flagging words I meant to write as 'politically-incorrect'; like, hey, I'm Asian, and we don't do 'political corrections' here.

The real worry for me is not that AI will replace me. It's that people will start thinking everything is AI. You know, this happened to artists before. Artists whose own art were stolen by the AI were falsely accused of using AI.

Of course, back then I did use generative art, so I will not claim any moral high ground, but I don't use it anymore. It used to be a fun tool to me, but then I saw all of what people did with that tool.

It's already happening. My take is, "I don't have the obligation to explain to you."

I can always prove I did everything I wrote and drew, just that, the burden of giving me the opportunity falls unto my accusers coz I can't be forced to spend a dime placating idiots.

To be fair, they are the ones who have the burden of proof. You don't really have to prove anything. If someone accuses you, it should be their job to prove it. If it's based on speculation, then I have no idea why they even said that. Things like Em-dashes aren't qualitative proof. I think the only proof would be incoherency between chapters.

True. And the same should apply to research papers. Students suffer unnecessary stress trying to prove they wrote their requirements without AI help simply because one teacher used a faulty system to challenge their works, which is really unfair. The only difference between our writing/drawing and their research is that, the teacher is "always right," hence, my colleagues often escape scrutiny for their methods.

I'm also reacting like this because, hey, it's only this week that we get to have class. Next week is the start of Christmas vacation here. However, instead of enjoying and taking their breaks, our students are scrambling to write their research papers. I mean, while I believe in studying hard, I also am an advocate for a balanced approach to academics, which includes a proper break.

Admittedly, I used a biased search term to find this article, but assuming that any of it is true is enough to put skepticism on their skepticism. By the way, this is a very unfortunate problem. It's twofold. You don't want to be skeptical of students unnecessarily. But you don't want AI work turned in.

Humans using AI to catch AI using human. :blob_dizzy:

Yes. :blob_upset:

A diligent study habit should always be paired with sufficient rest. One cannot learn if they are tired, or burned out.

And the worst part is, those research papers will end up as trash after five years, with no one even taking the time to read those.

@Envylope I always go for making a 'safe mistake' than being unnecessarily strict about it, backing that up with dubious systems. I mean, let's get real; not everyone is made to be a researcher. And in the Philippine education system, theses and research papers are just part of requirements, which all students reluctantly do without fully appreciating why they do it.

It's actually a problem in academia. I was in college and wrote a research paper about the effect of energy drinks on people. I had to do my own research and include graphs and stuff. Though, it's all for a letter grade. I guess it did help me one time when I was telling someone who asked about energy drink hospitalizations.
