The problem is worse in most other places than it is here on SH, but I want to pick up a story where I don’t know what is going to happen on first read. Fight scenes without consequences win or lose are so boring that I would rather not.

Of course there are exceptions in comedy for example, but that is putting the cart before the horse. If I am reading something and a fight scene starts, without any meaningful impact to the story, in most cases, is just filler. Of course if that is the tone you want ignore this, but things re seriously getting repetitive…

I like fight scenes, and I've liked isekai and portal fantasy before it was market flooded. I agree we do have too many of these types of stories and not enough new sci-fi stuff. I put out a sci-fi and it bombed so I'm seeing if i can't rework it because I wrote it when I was very young.

I also agree with you that fights should have narrative consequences that can't just be hand waved away, so I have a little trouble with over powered healers.

Sci-fi can be fun, my main gripe is that action regardless of setting has become boring and repetitive. Especially when you can not rely on cool visuals.

Yeah, I go back and reread my action scenes and find them boring and clunky then I rewrite them. Visuals rely on reader imagination, though I want to be able to make at least a manga scene in my head. I also try to tie it into the narrative. I think your example of faceslapping was good, if two fighters are just exchanging blows but it's not changing the pace of the battle, then a blow by blow account isn't needed.
