I tried reading manga adaptation, not a fan.

How far did ya get?

I don't know, it was a whole 'route' or something. I don't like covoluted titles that you can't figure out without a guide, same as fate and toaru. Spin offs and alternate routes are cool, but at one point authors forget that there is a main story, and it is called main for a reason.

Just in case, it's my preference, not criticism.

Did you get to the first twilight?

I don't remember what it is.

In the VN there is no choices, and 8 distinct chapters. Haven’t read the manga, but heard it held up well. The biggest complaint I hear about the VN, besides what I mentioned in the above, is that the art style is bad + there is no voice acting. The Steam version has it’s own sprites, that most hate. Most generally just use the console version with voice acting sprites and all, through mods.

Umineko is a mystery, the first twilight is when the mystery begins.

I read past multiple witches appearing, I don't know what twilight it is.

Had to be episode three if it follows the VN’s then. Eva becomes the new Beatrice, Virgilia is introduced, Beatrice has been a character since the last episode, and I think that LambdaDelta and Bernkastel are also both introduced, although I may be wrong there.

Probably the first twilight of episode 3.

I remember them all, and I've read past that. The thing is I barely remember a thing apart from characters themselves.
