Okay, psychology student here. When you say psychology books, do you mean academic or self help?

Academic, don't need self-help. Just want to understand how the things I thought is written in books...

Ok, so heres the thing. It is both ethically and legally not allowed for untrained individuals to give counselling. In order to remove the risk, they don't give the latest data. Kinda how for Atom, you study Thompson model, Rutherford model and behr model, study behr model for a few more years, discover that it was wrong all this time

But the thing is this, mind you see, is not something you can interact with. It is different from the brain. Getting a brain transplant doesn't result in memory or intelligence transplant. You can call mind to be the scientific version of soul. You can dream? MindYou can imagine fictional situation. Mind. Not brain but mind. Since mind is not visible and cannot be interacted with, we can only observe its behaviour.

In psychology, since we cannot confirm anything, anything that fulfils observations is true. In a branch called parapsychology, it is believed that people show disorders due to bieng possessed by demons. No, it's not an occult group. It's a real field. Why? Because you can't disprove it. So there are tons of theories.

Freud says females love males because males have a penis and females don't. That statement, while providing an explanation, would not be correct for most females

I never believed in self-help books since it's their help. I am fine in the stress department. So I decided to take a peek(read:gonna read the whole thing until I got satisfied with what I'm looking for) at a psychology book to see and compare myself and my thought based on the established facts...

So don't worry. All theories are weird, they break down the common sense cuz that's there work. You may find a theory someday which sits well with you,and it is okay. We have learned from childhood that we become sad due to hormones. If a book just tells us that we become sad because we have not reached our full potential yet, well it is normal to say skew you, you know nothing.

Self help books aren't that bad. Sure, they are written by arrogant people who think they know all and you will only become successful if you follow everything they say and if you don't become successful it means you disobeyed them....but it's kinda like bible. No use if you don't believe. For me, they are pretty much useless but one can use them to know ideal image.

psychology is my favorite subject it's pretty simple. maybe just read it like a blank page you might want to not project your preconceived notions onto the pages while reading. one thing I do is just watch a youtube video on it if you still haven't understood it.
