If you are dealing with fruit flies, might I recommend putting out small containers with a few drops of dish soap in apple cider vinegar?
The vinegar attracts them, and when they land to drink, the dish soap pulls them under.
Cheap, effective, and environmentally friendly all in one go.
It's not fruit flies. We could have handled those easily. It's mostly gnats, baby flies and drain flies. I wish it had been fruit flies; we would have destroyed them in days.
