Yeah, every summer. But it was somehow worse, those bastards made a nest under the roof of our house. One day I got pissed off, emptied a full bottle of anti-fly spray on the second floor and waited.
No, they're not fruit flies. We think they're a combination of drain flies and gnats. We pour boiling water down all the drains a few times a day now, and it seems to be making them plenty mad and more numerous. (boiling water destroys the nests and eggs.) Now they're outright landing on our skin and attacking us. It's war, I tell you!
I am NOT bug-bombing the house, @Regal_Russian_Tsar - if anything, the boiling water must be working since they're in a frenzy. Now, I did order something from Amazon called the Gnat-Zapper. it arrives tomorrow. We'll see how that goes. Zaps them on contact - I just have to be careful not to zap the cats.
Well, there are non-toxic approaches we've tried with some success, @Representing_Tromba Take an empty spray bottle, fill two thirds with straight vinegar (or apple cider vinegar), and one third Dawn or Palmolive dish soap. The vinegar attracts them, but the dish soap has an effect on their bodies, suffocating them. Spray along the outside of windows too.
I think I have some cit. candles still. I'm going to try sucking them up into the vacuum also. I remember that helped last year. Just suck them up out of the air with the nozzle. Thhhwoop!
Is there something rotting somewhere that they could be using as a food source? My family had this issue last year but it was because we had a whole bag of potatoes going bad and acting as the source of the gnats. Removed it and it ended the issue.
