Most media is mediocre because the tastes are elevated at every possible point due to sheer amount of it. The more media there is, the more mediocre things there are. Dumb logic 101.

Fitting that someone who likes a show about a magician that can't use magic's favorite character would be a quack.

This is what's modern life is about. People are quacks all the time, and their facades in those shows is what they want to look like, hiding the unethical shit in their backs. What makes Akko the best is that she seen that facade, seen that rot behind her idol, and pushed further, carving her own path, even if that path was blocked by her idol, saving the magic in the process.
