Sex sells, romance is vulnerable.
The need for violence in entertainment could be linked to a need to release stress. The popularity of the face slapping the young master trope in CN WN could reflect growing resentment over wealth disparity. Where I’m from, there are even places where you can pay $50 just to smash things with a baseball bat.

I think the problem is hypocrisy. Writing how a guy gets brutally killed is ok. Writing how a guy had sex isn't. I'm exaggerating slightly, but the thought behind it is true. So I think this selective way of making rules, deciding what is 'harmful' has a connection to the rise of readers who don't want any romance.

I mean, this is Hot Coffee all over again.

Somehow murder and violence is a-ok but sex? No sex!

As though saying that murder and violence is a mere fantasy but sex isn't.

Do you think there is a connection?

Possibly.

Yet at the same time, not really.

If you compare between sex and violence, the former is so much easier to attain.

Yet drugs might be just as easy as sex IRL but no anti drugs crapshoot from moral guardian.

I have no idea why they picked sex as the hill to die on.

I meant, is there a connection between the rise of readers who don't want any romance at all and want violence only and this thing?

:blob_hmm::blob_hmm_two:

Because it is simple?

Or is it like me, who doesn't want romance in my violent escapism?

Like how I hate softcore porn in manga, manhwa, manhua in supposed "action" genre as they make it awkward to read in public and makes me yell "either all the way or nah".

I'll be frank, the last thing I want and need is romance that derails from all my favorite violence. The romance can be there for downtime, but it should not take over the whole ride.

Which is why I hate Randidly, DoF, Become Asano Monster and Oracle Path. The mains got overwhelmed with emotions and forgot to violence.

I don't think there would be a correlation with romance and sex, especially in written works.

Just doesn't feel right.

Also, I microwaved my burger for too long and now it is hard as tack.

I mean, the fact people prefer violence over romance in the first place. Not you, but overall I noticed a rise in readers that prefer this over that. Does this rise has connection to the fact sex\sexual things are strictly forbidden while violence is not?
NotaNuffian

Sometimes it could be a form of bias.

Because A is forbidden to sell, hence B's sale shot up.

You might be right.

Also, sorry to hear about your burger, may it rest in pepperoni. ??

Are you talking about male-targeted romance or romance in general?
RepresentingWrath

That's a good question. Probably male-targeted.
NotaNuffian

Obviously male targeted.

Females just face slap.

I can’t speak for men since I’m not one so this is all pure speculation. But maybe it’s easier to get immersed in violent power fantasies because they’re clearly fictional. Like you know you’re never going to become a god or some cultivation master, so it’s easier to enjoy that genre :blob_hmm:

Romance is both attainable and unattainable at once which makes it feel more… personal? Sure, it’s fun to read about a beautiful girl being into you but then you look around in real life and realise she’s not interested in you, the rejection feels way more personal than waking up and remembering you haven’t become a god.

Also in reality there’s an increase in male virginity, or sexlessness :blob_hmm:

I'm a fan of destroying porn and gore, but guess which one is more prevalent and damaging?
