Whether or not you use utensils for certain foods is entirely up to culture and has nothing to do with civility.

If you went to Singapore, a beacon of Southeast Asian civilization, you would see that people eat a lot of food with their hands, even food that westerners would see as weird to eat that way.

Don't fall for utensil propaganda

It does make me wonder why eating Middle Eastern or Indian food with your hands is seen as uncivilized to (some) westerners, while eating other kinds of food that way is seen as A-okay.
