When the protagonist actually has an item or skill that can solve the plot and all the conflict in the novel, but they're not using it. Because the author forgot they had it. I promise that one detail will ruin the entire book for you.

It's either stuff like that, or the author is sexist/racist towards the only female/colored character in the novel. Just. Why.
