How does go even work... what is there to be nervous about..?
Or, instead, is it worth learning?

Go, to me, kind of feels like I'm communicating with the other player. There are so many options that every move kind of has a personality to it. Sometimes, it's "I'm angry! :blob_hmph:" and other times the other player is being peaceful and calm. There are some sequences that invite very complex sequences, so certain moves are like "Go ahead, I dare you to try it :blobspearpeek:"

As a game overall, it has a steep learning curve and it can be frustrating. But people who like the game tend to be obsessed with it.

Looks like B want’s to take the outside, and is willing to give up the corner. I would take the corner and then start worrying about the center.

Is there an easy way to take the corner from here? I don't know this joseki well...

@Omnii if you are willing to spend an hour learning the basics, as in how to play-simple shapes-common joseki-and basic strategies, and 30 min or so to play a day. Within a month or two you should have it figured out.
You could also watch Hikaru no Go, it does a good job on teaching you most of the basics while telling a slightly above average sports story, with an amazing OST.

@minacia seems like I was wrong the most common line does the opposite of what I said according to josekipedia.

The outside hane just scares me in general because I never remember how it goes

I would just bs a variation. Both hanae’s look promising. The one on the inside however seems less pie in the sky.

Oh wow, I rarely see those

0 tolerance on complicated variations if I am calm. Reducing an enclosure is more about forcing them to choose territory or influence. You must give up something imo.

Actually, now that I'm looking at this enclosure on waltheri, I'm realizing now that I have a really mistaken way of thinking about it :blob_dizzy: Someone that I knew used to dislike playing the large knight because they thought it was too easy to build a base off of, but it seems like I haven't studied it enough

It is the most flexible of the 3-4 enclosures.

I think there was a certain point when a lot of the north american pros seemed to like the one space jump over the large knight... tbh I never really tried to play very much with this enclosure
