The thing about not doing timeskip imo is for reader immersion. I for one, enjoy reading MC being weak at the start. Because this sort of gives me the base of the playing field for MC to then jump up. It is like watching a child grow up I guess. But if poorly done, like the one I am reading now, it just makes me want to keep skipping chapters.
