I don't know about that. The last time they did this world cup, players from certain games told they were treated like superstars. Everything catered and so on, however, I don't remember if the organization, like rules and translations were ok. I don't remember anything egregious, either.
Like, if they suddenly decide to add baseball to Esports World Cup and pay a shit ton of journalists to call it an esport, it won't become an esport. This is just an example to show what I mean.
As for chess community, I saw a couple of memes, couple of games. Sad that Nepo didn't win against Ding, but it was his fault through and through.
