Physical smackdowns happen when my students get suicidal and hurt themselves.

Well, this is not to say I'm not losing patience with my class. One of my pet peeves is the repeated giving of instructions when I did all my best to explain everything to them beforehand.

And my students know it, so they avoid pissing me off.

The only thing that separates me from other teachers they purposefully annoy is that I can be their reliable friend, even outside class hours.

Remember, you're never really a student's friend. You might be their counselor for a time, but you can't be their friend.
I am friendly to the people I work with, but I'm not their 'friend' because when shit hits the fan I throw them all under the bus.
