The game is fairly simple once you learn the rules, how a typical game looks like, and how basic shapes work. It is easier to start then chess, but harder to master.

It is practically impossible to compare them this way, but it took 18 more years and a breakthrough in ai for computers to consistently beat top Go professionals. In Go a long game can easily reach 250 moves, while in chess it is quite rare for it to exceed 100.

Chess is played on a smaller board and most opening positions have been thoroughly explored, while middle games and end games are extremely complex for humans. In Go the board is more than 2x larger, and starts with no pieces on the board, it’s opening is somewhat complex and it’s middle game is extremely complex, assuming you follow opening principles, while endgames are relatively simple.
