Please don't take it as a lecture, I just wanted to share how I approach moments like this, maybe it will give you some comfort...

We can't control others, can't decide what they will do or say, but that doesn't mean that ever blow has to hurt. Bad things that happen are annoyingly sticky and it's so difficult to forget about them, but it's not impossible to break from under their influence.

You can choose if you're going to use the precious time you have on those nasty thoughts. It's not easy by no means and you won't forget everything that happens, but you can make those memories fade and lose the intensity they once had.
Saying "no" to them and refusing to spiral deeper into them is something that can get you far.
