Sailus say that as a joke, but there is some truth. When all their friends are getting waifu pillows, why would they need 3d relationships???

I think dense JP mc is simply a stupid trope to make shitty stories work. And it is also partially true for dense lesbian. Because I'm pretty sure origin of a dense lesbian is dense character(protagonist?). The only reason it got a separate name is to simplify the search and categorizations of works. Doesn't mean this trope have absolutely no real-world influence though.

Dense lesbian is a real phenomenon. I am not sure how often it occurs, but another name for it is "useless lesbian."

@SailusGebel I mean, probably not. But the dense MC trope (like those MCs with more quote-unquote "nerdy" interests) probably stems from a more generalized peer pressure that is less dominated by anti-sexual preference sentiments, such as hating on others for not fitting into cliques or ideal appearances. Never say never though.

Also, I don't know what JP stands for,

And yes, dense people is a real phenomenon too, but that misses the point. "Dense lesbian" has a connotation of girl romance and amusing pitfalls (and if you're lucky, you've found a writer will even be good enough to make you not see the romance coming until you have the benefits of hindsight). "Dense people" hardly has such a romantic connotation. Maybe "dense romantic" would be a better comparison?

I'm too lazy to explain it all, and I have a grapefruit to eat. So I'm withdrawing from this conversation.

I am uncertain, actually. I think the trope, as you know it, probably originated from western literature, in which case I don't know; my focus of study was only Japan, and it is complicated there.

Enjoy your grapefruit, Sailus!

@Reinaislost I believe it originated from western literature too. Right now, I am hypothesizing as to why it arose in the first place. Either way, I enjoy the trope. And yeah, anything involving queer anything in Japan culture is complicated as all get out.
