I taught Filipino language and reading, MAPEH (Music, Arts, PE, Health) and currently, TLE (Technology and Livelihood Education, equivalent of Home Economics).

If you want to teach your friend English, you have to know their prior knowledge of that language. How 'deep' is their grasp of English? What do they know? This is so you won't waste time in teaching stuff they already know, and potentially bore themselves out.

I've tried measuring their knowledge about english, but what troubled me was that I don't have a way to teach them.

In short, I don't f**king know where to start teaching them, as I myself learned english straight up by (mostly) myself for over 10 years. And I am still learning.

You'll know where to start once you determined their knowledge of the language. So you said you 'tried' measuring their knowledge; what did you learn from them?

They are super basic at english. Nah, even basic words such as 'to', 'in', 'at', and 'on' they don't really know what it means. Those words have more than 3 but less than 5 meanings, right? So, I'll definitely have a hard time trying to convey what I understand bout these words to them.

You can start from there. Make sure they understand the meaning of those basic words, for you can't proceed to complex lessons if they are still getting confused with the basics.

Make sure they understand the meaning of those in English, and in your language, so they can relate those words you're teaching them.

For example:

In (English) = Sa Loob (Filipino) / You use this if you mean 'inside'.
