To be fair, it's how most one-on-one fights are. At least the "to the death" ones.

One mistake and you're six feet under.

That's the philosophy of most professional fighters.

I practice HEMA with my friends, so it might have influence my writing style

No, that's a good thing. HEMA is a wonderful practice as a writer because it shows uou the physical action of fighting realistically so that you can describe it. Plus, HEMA is a lot of fun. I do it to. Personally love the arming sword and rapier combo.

I always go for the classic sword and buckler combo, its very versitle. Practice fencing really helps me find good fighting styles for my character.

Sword and buckler is a classic style that's very effective. Highly recommend. Have you ever tried a one handed Longsword and buckler or spear and buckler combos? They can be more difficult to learn but offer more range for attacks while also keeping the buckler defense.

Longsword don't fit me as much as I like them, due to hypermetabolism plaguing me for most of my life I can't gain enough muscle to wield it without using up my energy. Still, after a few more months of workout I'll try it again.

That's fair. It's a more stationary style that focuses on maintaining steady stance and strength so it would make sense. Though he spear style might suit you then as it using swinging and stabbing with one or two hands for max range, protection and movement.

It also doesn't require a lot of muscle as it is a more mobile style for one on one or horde combat.

I do practice using a spear, and it feels like bringing a cheatcode.
