There was a CN story I read about a punk girl reincarnated into an abusive relationship with her yandere husband. Half of the story focused on petty jealousy and a love triangle, only for her to turn out to be a long-lost princess, from a martial arts mythical country, who is actually a legendary martial artist. I dropped it faster than hot plates.

Ah, yes, those ones... The "MC is secretly/unknowningly a very important person! YOU'VE NEVER SEEN THIS TWIST BEFORE!"

Just... Fuck that.

Yes, that’s why I make my MC important from the start!
It’s also just that the execution is horrible. I was under the impression of reading a trashy showbiz story, then it suddenly turned to trashy action, then used the trashy lost babies trope. After she realised she’s a princess, she just went… meh, I’m going to be a showbiz manager again.

I enjoy making characters work for their "importance."

You wanna become a prince? Sure, go marry a princess.

You wanna become a god? Go eat a god. Come on, do it you coward.

I vaguely remember dropping it when there were some weird statue things... and the mc was living thru a flashback (?) And he was changing the past(?)

Don't remember anything about statue things, to be honest. But the second one is when he was cursed to "see his nightmares" and "remembered" his previous world. Probably that.

Ok, ok, fine. I dropped the webtoon after 40 or so chapters. Didn't find it particularly good or worth the hype.

It was quite fresh for me at the time... there wasn't a lot of stories translated that had the same... vibe, now, there is a bit of an over saturation, or rather... i have gotten used to the k-novel melodramas aesthetics and lost the attraction a lot of the works.

I always felt that modern Korean webtoons(they are usually based on novels) are super tropey. Sure, they are undeniably better than Chinese one in terms of quality, but once you read a couple of "archetypes" you basically read all of Korean webtoons. Maybe I've only read the "bad ones" but I feel like they are even more tropey than CN.

Koreans and CN are both tropey, but one is an organised collection of tropes while the other is a disorganised melting pot.

Sometimes, the latter can surprise you due to sheer audacity.
