I highly doubt the French would try to put the Vietnamese on par with them like that

Same

It's an unknown war movie and not a documentary so whatever I guess

It makes sense if the goal was to erase Vietnamese culture and identity. By "rewriting" the history and forcing one specific language you can take away core elements of a nation.

Yeah, if I were a colonizer, that'd make sense. But wouldn't a classroom thingy like that be kinda weird?

Or is it more of a represntation than the actual happenings

I think it may be more of a symbol than actual happenings. Though it's not like things like that never happened in history. :blob_hmm_two: WWII being a good example.

Chinese modify stuff in own history books school
famous library of alexandria was burned.
And vaguely remember, that in some old war movie, there was a a armed soldier in each classroom.
And in recent CNs, the MCs to conquer Mongolia, propose to culture educate them with chinese etc

Not sure about French - Vietnamese Napoleon (as its very dumb) but indeed kinda remember a similar thing mentioned in WW2.

You simply underestimate the stupidity of humanity
or their ruthlessness, daikon-san.
Even in 1990, there were already very gigantic moroni things, and in 2024 less but still having signs.

So imagine, far in the past. Yes. This kind of stuff, happened, not everywhere but its possible and very likely.

Its like, a logic once said :
imagine the most dumb thing that a human being can possibly die of. The probability of that happening is ridicuslously low. But in the long gigantic history of humanity, its likely there is 1 person that indeed die like that.
This logic can be applied to "action" too.
+ combo : reality is sometimes crazier than fiction

Or heck,
A small understandable saying (relatable) : "History books are written by the victors" (Roman Empire)

Any occupation will try to influence the "occupied".

And again vaguely remember a movie scene, where students get totally new books after being conquered, and must read loudly/praise the conqueror country or something. Brainlessly reciting.

@TsuruI_am_a_bot my reluctance to believe this is what exactly happened is due to calling such prominent figures as Napoleon, since that would give a lot of weight to someone who was most likely to serve as a slave or a servant.
During german occupation of Poland, kids in schools were forced to learn and speak only German, learn German history, etc.

It was forbidden to learn anything related to Polish history, culture and language. Hitler was very determined to make sure the young have no attachment to their country, because with this they wouldn't want to fight for it and the nation would eventually stop existing. I'm guessing it was similar with France and Vietnam :blob_hmm_two:
