Are you planning to create a separate book for Book 2 and link them? Perhaps it would freshen things up a little.

freshen things up a little.
I approve the 2nd part of the sentence. 200%

Not just writing, but you the author too.
Do a pause, have fun, and come back refreshed. With motivation.

@Cosmictapestry There are 7 planned novels for Monster Girl Chronicles at the moment, with the possibility of short stories and side novels!

The issue is the drop in views, comments, readers and feedback. There's no a large or vocal audience following along and that leaves me to ponder what factors could be leading to this outcome thus far ?

@Cosmictapestry oh I forgot about the question haha! Book 2 will be linked to Book 1 just not as a direct sequel. It will be featuring new characters, new monsters and a new adventure in the same world. Book 3 however will feature returning characters from Book 1 and Book 2.

Aesthetic fatigue.
Or lack of smut.
Or disappointment.

Or busy readers.

@TsuruI_am_a_bot It could be lack of smut. The early start is more slice of life with plenty of smut, but as the story progresses and the tone grows more serious, the smut occurs less frequently.

Fatigue or business are big factors, but there are other stories with more chapters that still maintain plenty of reader investment after 100 chapters.

From what you’re saying, it looks like you had established your novel first as smut. Smut readers then only come for one thing. For readers who were more focused on the plot, they may not connect with the story immediately. And as the smut reduced, so did your original target readers. Just a guess. Maybe you can tag your smut chapter names to set clear expectations?

I think for Book 2, I'll be shifting the tone and keeping the pacing consistent from start to finish. The first act might have hurt the story flow by keeping it character focused. I just wish I could speak to my audience and ask them what I can do to keep the story investment strong for them.
