Basically, think of it like Dungeon Meshi.
Its bad, medium-bad but popular.
And anime, is like make-up. Very high quality asian-style makeup.

Plot is decently good but art is medium. And not deserving to be so popular. XD
Its simply anime making anything popular for the season for normies.

As for "great story".......I would say "quite good" story.
"great" not so sure is correct word.

I mean. The girl was saved and barely 3 (forgot how many as its been so long i read it) chapters and turned into chimera by bad guy.

but the group and his friends doesnt make for a "great" story. Quite good story that wont deny but not there yet.

Why facepalm? It deserves the popularity it got. It deserves it a lot more than many popular titles. And comparing it to Eminence that got popular isn't right, cause Eminence is a trashy, gimmicky isekai. Dungeon Meshi is an actual work with serious themes in it, and I'm not talking about simply adding deaths or drama.

but just that i am pissed off by the normie "seasonal temporary liking" (like seasonal waifu)

I never understood the popularity for novel before.
And again anime UPPING everything by great looks (the girls sure are sexy + uniform)
and i hate misunderstandings (especially cringe/dense ones like eminence)

To reiterate, its not that i dont want for Meshi to be unpopular.
I agree its better than "adding deaths/drama" trash series

but like : The series should be side character to better series
and not be the BIG NUMBER 1 WINNER of the season.
Its like parent seeing their child get MISS EARTH BEAUTY crown, just because all more beautiful rivals are temporary sickleave. They know they deserve a prize BUT NOT THAT BIG.

I don't care if it is seasonal as long as the author and her work get the recognition she deserves. Also, if you simply read it as is, it is still going to be a better story than 99% of recent manga, but it will be weird. A group of friends go to save another friend and cook stuff. The greatness of the story comes when you think of undertones, and think why Laios(MC) is so weird.

When you(geneicl you) think while you read, and not mindlessly swiping pages just like you do with shounens or isekais.
