the dog...just crawled under the sofa...I'm not sure but from the glances and sounds I do get, he's either being tortured or chasing his tail under the couch...
every time I get dog in lap somebody comes up and steals him from me and I am suffering from dog drought

pacing is extremely important but it's most noticeably fumbled in horror and romance. Go too fast in either and you'd get either comedy or mediocrity; the comedy is usually the better option to aim for.
remember kids, if someone asks if you'll stay with them forever after an emotionally charged event (i.e. kidnapping/ rescuing from a kidnapping) then say no. If you say yes that's bait for yandere-ism
