Well, I guess, this works without internal monologue because there are visuals to compensate for that. Like Light's expression (which is pretty chill for a teenager who just, uh... offed someone), and there is the background music. I doubt this would actually work in writing. (I'm sorry for changing this comment. I realised my mistake.)
