A student's letter I received today. I call her 'Robin Hood' coz her name's got Robin in it.

That's really sweet.

I prefer calling my students nicknames since it's personal, and I can relate to them.

So they really call you Hans?

Yep. Sir Hans, or my other nickname, Sir Ed. But it's mostly Sir Hans.

Oh, I always wondered how you got that particular name.

Ya know, I was thinking of a pen name, then suddenly, "Hans".

For the surname, I got a globe, spun it around...and guess where my index finger landed. ??

Ed is from my actual first name.

Any case, I prefer to be referred to by my students by my nickname, a signal to them that they can befriend me.
