Is there even a point to exploring MC early on in the first pov stories? Everything is given through the lens of MC. And MC always ends up overhauled more than everyone else combined at the end of such stories.

I usually don't describe MC appearance in first POV very much. It depends on if the story permits it. Always do it in third though.

Describing one's appearance is usually unnatural. A well placed mirror or a scene of them in front of a still lake can work though.

I think description in first person stories is still important. You expect to see less but I have a hard time continuing reading when I just don't get anything at all

It's a first-person weakness. I think that POV will probably get the most variability in what people want.
