From what I have learned: In the hands of a child there is nothing that will not end up chipped, cracked, broken, missing, or disassembled should you give them both opportunity and time.

He's 3 years old and we've had this broom and dustpan set since shortly before I was pregnant, so it has taken a lot of abuse as well.

It's just cracked. Can probably fix it right up with glue.

Find a way to make it a game. Helps if the child is a bit ADHD.
