Ah yes, especially when the skipped info is so much more interesting than what’s happening after- one fantasy/romance I read SKIPPED THE JOURNEY TO BECOMING A POWERFUL WARRIOR!

The FL was of “pagan” origins (think terrorist) that had the power to mind control monsters that the other monster-mind-controlling pagans were forcing to attack the ambivalently evil empire (terrorists slightly worse due to human sacrifice and child slavery, but the empress did murder her children soooo)

and skipped the time she learned to harness her powers, the struggles against the other pagans, and her growth from a perceived enemy to a leader of the common soldiers.
