@Prince_Azmiran_Myrian Kind dragon, once you finish reading it, can you PM me the details? I don't want to spam fishy with notifications.

@SailusGebel Apparently, Midjourney developers made a list of artists to train the AI without consent.
edit: oops too slow...

That huge list of artists are the source “material” for midjourney.

So AI engine was just a big tracing machine.

I cannot see how this is news worth. I will find it news worth if people get sued for it and win. What is LLM? Just a huge collection of data. It might even have data from those same Disney and Nintendo. Are you going to stop people from training A.I? Is the difference between a machine and a human because one you can prompt and the other you cannot?
TsumiHokiro
TsumiHokiro
If so, this will be the HUGE downfall of A.I. and no longer will we see people training on ANYTHING at all due to fears of "BUT IT'S COPYING MY STYLE!"

A.I does not create. It sees something that has already been in existence and modifies to look alike. In fact, humans do not create for the most part of it as well. If the court rules you cannot train A.I on something that is copyrighted, trademarked or whatever else, then you have ruled out the existence of A.I as we know nowadays.

But…I was just laughing that they will get sued? Why does it have to be news worth??

Fact: with Disney as damaged party, it will hurt midjourney.

Point is, they shouldn’t have taken other people’s art without consent. If they cannot get through with this, then what is copyright even there for??

@tiaf Uh-uh, I know! Copyright is for Monster Beverage Corporation to sue anyone who dares to use the word Monster! ?

It can’t be that copying a sentence from source in a bachelor paper can nullify the whole work, while AI engineers can make money on other people’s craft they honed for YEARS.

AI should be a tool for the rough work like color chrome or concept trials. It should have never been a replacement for the final product.

It will be news worth because of how justice works: If one company can get sued for having learned art from copyright, then ANY other can be as well if they do not own the copyrighted material! That's how copyright works, after all. It's up to me to decide how others use my stuff…

@tiaf What are your thoughts on using AI in indie gamedev? What if a small team(less than ten) or a solo developer use AI art in the final product? P.S. This is not some kind of jab at you, I'm just curious.

@SailusGebel I don't play games, but I did write a script for a mini game. I also had to ensemble stock images (got decent ones for affordable price and some were free) to make print stuff for my workplace.

Personal and commercial opinion: Would never use AI because of its hazy copyright. Can get burned way too fast.

Any business has to eat losses for 1-2 years at the beginning.

@TsumiHokiro I don't understand what you want to get at.

Those artists that were used as fodder have the right to have there works not used in AI engines. I feel schadenfreude because stupid people who think that using AI makes them an artist just got a fat slap into their face.

Gdi, if I read another user on this forum calling AI users artists I will call them stupid until get banned.

I think that this will be a short-term impediment to AI art, companies will find another way to train the AI...
hmm, maybe this will make it so that big corporations will be the only ones capable of funding any future development.

Far from me to call those people who only generate images using algorithm artists! A.I is just algo, nothing more, nothing less! The artist is the one who might have created the program, not the final user. But that is not in debate. The artist of a program, please. They at least know of what they can be proud of.

You are right, you have the right to feel cheated if people can create things like you do on a click. After all, the machine has learned from the same source you used to learn from. The machine also seems to learn so fast! It has many minds behind, and many years of education. Technology at its best, used to make others lose their "creative" jobs.

Far from me to discuss how you want to feel, little fish. This chick was just wondering how people who feel cheated delay human progress. If you believe it not fair, root for it. If you do, don't root for it. This chick just saw how much bigger than a simple gloat your comment meant, and somehow stepped onto your fins. Excuse me, I shall retire from here. I do not want to deserve your ire.
